Let's start with the real MVP: Anne Hathaway's Catwoman. She said "I'm going to steal jewelry AND your heart" and honestly? Mission accomplished on both counts. What a baddie, truly. She strutted through this movie like she knew she was the best part of it, because she was.
The ending though genuinely so good I forgave the film for everything leading up to it. Chef's kiss. 10/10. No notes. Bruce Wayne finally logging off from being Batman and going to Florence for pasta? Iconic retirement plan honestly, more people should try it.
And then there's THAT line:
“a hero can be anyone. even a man doing something as simple and reassuring as putting a coat around a little boy’s shoulders to let him know that the world hadn’t ended.”
BUT. And this is a big but, bigger than Bane's muscles. This movie is LONG, and not in the "epic journey" way, in the "did we need three separate plots and also a nuclear bomb subplot" way. It's a bit of a slog in the middle, and honestly? This has been my whole experience with the trilogy. I love these movies, I really do, but all three of them share this specific gift of being simultaneously incredible and a bit of a homework assignment. Great story, strong themes, gorgeous Gotham, occasional boredom — it's the Nolan special.
Would still recommend. Would still occasionally check my phone during act two. Both things are true.
